I don't have any official research, and I can only go by what I see on the various forums on the internet where doll owners,
both male and female, get together to swap tips on maintaining their dolls, upgrades, photography, storytelling, outdoor adventures and a multitude of other things too many to mention individually.
Notwithstanding the above, we get so-called 'experts' throwing around wide-reaching accusations that we are all misogynistic.
Let’s take the example on Wikipedia and run with it.
“Misogyny is the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls. Misogyny manifests in numerous ways, including social exclusion, sex discrimination, hostility, androcentrism, patriarchy, male privilege, belittling of women, disenfranchisement of women, violence against women, and sexual objectification.”
I’m not one for prejudicial labels and stereotypes as it’s often a lazy way to hide the real truth. For the ‘misogynistic’ label to stick to us as doll owners, some of the facets listed above have to apply to all doll owners if the label is to be considered fair.
Unfortunately, the media sell their newspapers however they can. Their print concentrates on the ‘shock’ and ‘sleaze’ factor to sell their copy and they are often ‘stories’ and rarely ‘fact’.
If anything, it is the media that are sexually objectifying women by insisting that we doll owners only want these sex dolls so we can get laid on a whim.
This is the media selling their print as ‘fact’ without any significant research. They are strengthening a prejudice by herding the sheeple.
I like to bring my dolls to life through photography and often comedic storylines. Rather like any storytelling, whether it is verbal, film, animation etc. you have to have empathy for the main character.
If you are to portray effectively, you have to have an understanding of how your characters bounce off each other, and you, essentially, have to become emotionally involved with the character to successfully put the story across.
During my time of doll forum memberships, I have never, ever witnessed anyone exhibiting any hatred of or contempt for women or girls.
We have a deep-seated appreciation for their physical form and a deep-seated desire to ensure they remain in perfect condition, alongside a deep appreciation of their unique femininity. Possibly more so than in some marriages!
We care for our dolls. So much so that it can become somewhat of an ongoing investment to ‘keep them happy’.
This is where empathy once again enters the equation as we so much want our girls to look and ‘feel’ their best. We buy them makeup, clothes, shoes, jewellery and we are happy to see them happy.
We actually feel our dolls happiness. It is actually our happiness, but our dolls are a sounding board for that happiness, simply by us being in their presence.
So, at the end of the day, we doll owners are pretty normal human beings who have chosen to have in our lives at least one beautiful interactive work of natural art.
According to the label, women are something we hate. Why on earth would we want the presence of their physical form if we hated it?
The only thing remotely misogynistic with doll ownership is ‘sexual objectification’, rather like fleshlights and such like. But, using the same flawed logic, dildos could equally be considered misandrous.
In any case, are any of those products created through malice and/or hatred towards either sex?
I ask these so-called ‘experts’ to stop using the word misogynistic to label doll owners as it is wholly inaccurate.
Now look up ‘philogynist’ and consider whether that label is any better.
